The Woodlands is a Special-purpose district and Census-designated place (CDP) in the U. S. state of Texas in the Houston–-- The Woodlands–-- Sugar Land metropolitan statistical location. The Woodlands is mostly situated in Montgomery Region, with portions expanding into Harris Area. The Woodlands is regulated by The Woodlands Area, a company that provides local solutions and is administered by a chosen board of directors. Since the 2020 U. S. Census, the town had a populace of 114,436 people. In 2021, The Howard Hughes Firm approximated the populace of The Woodlands was 119,000. The United States Census Bureau defines an urban location separate from the Houston urban location with The Woodlands as a principal city: The Woodlands–-- Conroe, TX urban area had a 2020 population of 402,454, making it the 103rd biggest in the USA. The Woodlands is located 28 miles (45 km) north of Houston along Interstate 45. Though it started as an exurban development and a bedroom suburb, it has also drawn in companies and has numerous corporate schools, most notably Occidental Oil Firm, Chevron Phillips Chemical, Huntsman Company, Woodforest National Bank, Baker Hughes, McKesson Specialty Wellness, and Halliburton. The neighborhood won an Unique Honor for Quality in 1994 from the Urban Land Institute.
